Welcome to Atlanta!

Here is a quick overview of how to get to the conference and what else you can do when you get here.

Transportation

Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport to Atlanta Marriott Buckhead & Conference Center.

Hotel address: 3405 Lenox Road Northeast, Atlanta, GA 30326-1308 [Google Map]

Public Transportation: MARTA

Metro Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority (MARTA) has train stations in Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport and on the same block as the conference hotel. At $3.50 per ride, it is the most economical option and, with Atlanta traffic, may be the most streamlined.

When arriving at the airport, take the “Plane Train” from your gate to the baggage claim/ground transportation exit.

Exit the Plane Train and follow the crowd to the long escalators that will take you up to the main level of the airport. Depending on what airline you fly, you will go right or left to the baggage claim. For the most part, the South Terminal is for Delta and the North Terminal is for everyone else.

Once you grab your bags, exit the baggage claim area and follow for signs for MARTA (the public transit system for Atlanta) on the West end of the terminal building.

Once inside the doors of the MARTA Station, locate the kiosks to buy a Breeze Ticket. You can purchase a one-way or multiple trip(s) ticket. This is best for occasional riders. It is $3.50 per ride. If you are going to be back in Atlanta soon or want to explore the city with more than four (4) rides, you can opt for the Breeze Card or download the Breeze Mobile 2 app on your smart phone.

Once you purchase your ticket, tap the card at the gate (remember to keep your ticket handy because you will need to tap it again on your way out of the station at your destination) and take the escalators to the trains. At the top of the escalators take the train on the left, the Gold Line to Doraville station. (The North Springs/Red line will take you close to the hotel, but it is not as easy as the Gold Line.)

Take the train north through the city 14 stops to the Lenox station. When you exit the train, turn left and look for the signs that direct you to the Mall, Lenox Road and Buses. Take the escalator to the street. Exit the station following signs for the Mall.

When you exit the station, you will be at the intersection of East Paces Ferry Rd. and Lenox Rd. Go north (left) on Lenox Road. Do not be confused as there is a JW Marriott directly across Paces Ferry Rd. from the MARTA Station. Our hotel, the Atlanta Marriott Buckhead Hotel and Conference Center, is only .20 miles down Lenox Road on the opposite side of the street of the JW Marriott and Lenox Mall. Once you start walking, you will be able to see the red Marriott sign on the building, just past a Mavis Tires & Brakes sign.

Ride Share

Hartsfield Jackson International Airport has a designated ride share pick-up area. Proceed through baggage claim in the North Terminal for the escalators located between doors N2 and N3 to the Ride share Pick-up Zone. Follow the orange ride share signs. Request your ride when you arrive in the Ride share Pick-up Zone.

Ride-share drivers will pick up passengers at the North Economy lot, which is a short walk from North baggage claim area.

Ride shares can run anywhere from $45-$100 depending on the size of the vehicle you need and time of day.

Unaffiliated drivers (freelancers) may approach you on the way to the ride-share lot. This activity is not sanctioned by the airport.

Taxi

Taxi-cab service at the Domestic Terminal is located in the Ground Transportation Center/West Curb, immediately outside and between the W-1 and W-2 door.

Taxis can cost about $50 to ride to Buckhead.

Dining

There are a number of restaurants near the hotel. Most are about a 10-15 minutes' walk, or you can ride The Buck shuttle (information in the transportation section). There is also a food court at Lenox Mall, across the street from the hotel.

High Museum of Art: Truth told slant (contemporary photography exhibit)

Truth Told Slant examines a recent shift in how photographers have taken on the challenge of making meaningful images of the world around them. Rather than using the traditional documentary approach of dispassionate observation, they work in a stylistically expressive manner akin to literary nonfiction, weaving between observational and narrative modes while embracing their own subjectivity.
